The official toll of Swine Flu cases has reached 29 in the UK (26 in England and 3 in Scotland), there were 55,000 new cases of swine flu last week.

Official cases of swine flu rise everyday and according to Britain’s Chief Medical Officer who says that in the worst case scenarion there could be up to 65,000 deaths caused by the Swine Flu, with a minimum of 3,100 cases.

It’s too soon to jump into any conclusions and it will all depend on how quick a vaccine can be prepared and distributed or the storage of Tamiflu, the only drug along with relenza known to help combat the Swine Flu.

55,000 new cases where reported last week, 50% more than the previous one, as the virus travels fast across the UK, and affects more and more people, specially those under the age of 14 or over 65.

There has been some turmoil in the UK when GP released a statement saying that they were receiving mixed messages on whether to give a prescription of Tamiflu to Swine Flu suspects or only to the most severe cases.

Apparently there was a discrepancy between a message on the NHS Direct website that appears to indicate all those with confirmed swine flu will receive Tamiflu that would help diminish the virus’s severity, and contradictive advice that came from the Royal College saying doctors should use their discretion.

According to the Department of Health:

“There’s not going to be a case of people being refused Tamiflu,

The question is whether there will be enough stock of Tamiflu should that worst case scenario happen.
